on my Debian/GNU system with the non-free java package, I don't get unicode strings from a unicode database. the\
re seems to be a hidden assumption somewhere that uses the useless platform default.


it's also possible that this limitation is simply inherited from Java, by using it's I/O classes.see e.g. this article on Unicode in Java.


	

	

		what expected
